Coalition for Automotive Lightweighting Materials
CALM Working Group

Mixed Material Industry Collaboration:

  • Mass Reduction / Vehicle Down-weighting
  • Responding to Fuel Economy Mandates
  • Addressing Increased Vehicle Safety Requirements

CALM Press Release      CALM Summary & Objective - Jan. 2012

The purpose of the Coalition for Automotive Lightweighting Materials (CALM) is to support the cost-effective integration of mixed materials to achieve significant reductions in mass through the collaborative efforts of the material sectors and the auto manufacturers.

These associations along with CAR form the CALM Advisory Committee. The partnership and support of CAR by these organizations enable the formation of CALM.

CALM is intended to be industry led with CAR as the project manager. The CALM group will meet approximately monthly, and an executive advisory committee will include the director from each material association and the CAR Principal Investigator to set priorities and to periodically review progress.
